SALT LAKE CITY — One person was killed Sunday morning after a semitruck went into the median and rolled over on its side on Interstate 80 near Salt Lake City, according to the Department of Public Safety.

A semtruck and trailer on I-80 left the roadway to the left and went into the center median at 9:20 a.m., the DPS said. The semitruck then rolled over on its side and hit the center cable barrier.

“There were two occupants inside, and both were extricated by medical personnel,” according to DPS. The driver of the semitruck was taken to the hospital in a helicopter and pronounced dead at the hospital, DPS said.

The passenger was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. The severity of the passenger’s injuries wasn’t immediately made available.

An I-80 lane was closed for a time following the crash, according to the Utah Department of Transportation.
