82-year-old man killed in Cache County crash

SMITHFIELD, Cache County — An 82-year-old man was killed in a Smithfield car crash on Friday.

At 5:38 a.m. that day, a Hyundai Santa Fe was northbound on 2400 West when it ran the stop sign at the state Route 218 intersection, according to a statement from the Utah Highway Patrol. A Nissan Rogue was eastbound and struck the Hyundai on the driver’s side, troopers said.

The Hyundai driver, Martin Jenson, of Amalga, Cache County, and his wife were transported to the hospital, the statement says, but Jenson died from his injuries. His wife suffered injuries not considered life-threatening.

The driver of the Nissan was not injured.
