EAGLE MOUNTAIN — An Eagle Mountain woman has been arrested and accused of falling asleep in her bathtub with her infant daughter, resulting in the drowning death of the 2-month-old girl.

Taylor Nichole Trusty, 24, was booked into the Utah County Jail on Friday for investigation of negligent homicide and damaging a jail cell or place of confinement.

Trusty “admitted to drinking a large amount of alcohol” on Thursday night and decided to take a late-night bath, according to a statement from the Utah County Sheriff’s Office.

“Trusty admittedly had a history of falling asleep in the bath for hours. Trusty admitted to bringing the victim into the bathroom with her and placing the victim in a bouncy chair next to the tub. Trusty stated that during her bath, she had picked up the victim and placed the victim on her lap in the tub, just above the water line,” the sheriff’s office said.

Trusty’s 7-year-old daughter woke her up about two hours later, “worried about the 2-month-old baby girl being face down in the water,” a police booking affidavit states.

The infant was not breathing when she was pulled out of the tub and first responders could not revive her.

Police say after Trusty was taken into custody and was being transported to jail, she spit on the center console of the patrol car.
