PROVO — A driver was booked into jail for investigation of DUI after he hit and killed a pedestrian in Provo, police said.
Mario Valer, 80, was crossing the road at 920 S. 100 West about 6:10 p.m. when he was hit by a pickup truck, Provo police spokesperson Janna-Lee Holland said.
Valer was transported to nearby Utah Valley Hospital with critical injuries but ultimately did not survive.
The driver, identified as Jason Phillips, 42, of Pleasant Grove, was arrested and booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of DUI and automobile homicide, police said.
Holland said 920 South was closed at 100 West for traffic heading west while police investigated the crash, but it has since reopened.
No other information was immediately released.
