SALT LAKE CITY — A fatal crash on northbound Interstate 15 in Salt Lake City on Sunday has led to the road’s closure and traffic being diverted off at 600 South, the Utah Highway Patrol said.

A driver who was eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-80 got onto I-15, heading southbound in northbound lanes, Highway Patrol Cpl. Luis Silva confirmed.

At around 700 North, the wrong-way driver crashed head-on into a northbound Audi, Silva said.

The driver of the Audi is in stable condition at a local hospital.

The wrong-way driver died in the collision.

Traffic on northbound I-15 is being diverted off the highway at 600 South.

There is no estimate on when the road will reopen.

“Investigations for fatal crashes can sometimes take a few hours,” Silva said.
