Driver killed in wrong-way crash on I-15

SALT LAKE CITY — A fatal crash on northbound Interstate 15 in Salt Lake City on Sunday led to the road’s closure and traffic being diverted off at 600 South, the Utah Highway Patrol said.

A driver of a blue Toyota Camry was eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-80 got onto I-15, heading southbound in northbound lanes, Highway Patrol Cpl. Luis Silva confirmed.

At around 700 South, the wrong-way driver crashed head-on into a northbound Audi, Silva said.

A gray Hyundai was also sideswiped by the wrong-way driver, Silva confirmed. The driver of the Hyundai suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.

The driver of the Audi is in stable condition at a local hospital.

The wrong-way driver died in the collision.

Traffic on northbound I-15 is being diverted off the highway at 600 South.

The road has since reopened, Silva said.

Correction: An earlier version incorrectly reported the crash happened around 700 North instead of 700 South.
