THE NEIGHBORHOOD — Storms can sometimes turn nasty in the blink of an eye.
You might be sitting on your porch, enjoying a mellow rainstorm when, all of a sudden, the rain turns into marble-sized hailstones that begin wreaking havoc. Or, you could be flying your kite in a pleasant breeze and then, almost as if someone flipped a switch, the wind doubles in speed and your neighbors’ trampolines start soaring through the air.
In these unexpected moments, things can go south in a hurry. You just have to hope that you’re not in harm’s way and that you can move to a safer area in a timely manner.
Check out the scary storm in this video from the Pittsburgh area.
When the footage begins, it’s obvious that it was already a blustery day in the neighborhood. But the storm seems mild enough that people probably weren’t taking down their hanging plants or removing the wreaths from their front doors.
Then, like a falcon swooping down from the sky, the wind comes ripping through the neighborhood with a new ferocity. There’s a car driving up the hill right into the teeth of the storm. Mere moments after it passes, a huge tree comes crashing to the ground.
The driver of the car thankfully escaped injury, while the unoccupied car parked nearby wasn’t so lucky.
This is a good reminder to stay alert and be aware of your surroundings. Even in the summer months, microbursts and other types of storms can come out of nowhere.
