SALT LAKE CITY — A hiker is in critical condition after falling at Little Cottonwood Canyon on Sunday. He was transported to a hospital by a medical helicopter, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office says.

At 1 p.m. Sunday, a search and rescue was called for a hiker who had fallen, detective Arlan Bennett said.

The hiker somehow wedged his leg in a mountain near Lizard Head Wall, a popular location for rock climbing.

Bennett says that the hiker was inverted when he was found by people who called for the rescue.

The caller said the hiker had fallen, but it has not been determined how far he fell.

An AirMed helicopter transported the hiker about two hours later.

The Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue and Unified Fire Authority assisted in the rescue.

The hiker has only been identified as a 32-year-old man. He is in critical condition.
