PROVO — A Provo man was arrested Saturday and accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl he met on social media.
Jose Luis Garcia Sanabria, 27, was booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of the rape of a child, sodomy on a child, dealing in harmful materials to a minor and enticing a minor.
Garcia met a 13-year-old girl on Instagram and on Saturday, he offered to pick up the girl and take her back to his home, according to a police booking affidavit.
“The child told police that Jose picked her up at her house and they went back to Jose’s house in Provo. The child would not say what happened at his house, all she said was they were watching TV. She did tell police that more than kissing happened but would not go into detail of what that meant,” the affidavit states.
Garcia was arrested after he was stopped for investigation of driving under the influence and the girl was found in the front passenger seat. As police looked more into what was going on and the girl was interviewed again, it was discovered that Garcia sexually assaulted the girl and he was arrested, according to the affidavit.
After obtaining warrants for their phones, police say Garcia had sent her an explicit video on Instagram.
