PROVO — Provo police on Friday detained a male individual near Provo Town Centre mall after reports he had been brandishing a gun.

Officers located the person in the area of 1200 South and Towne Centre Boulevard near the mall following the report. He had a gun and ammunition, Provo police said in a statement, as well as other items that looked like homemade bombs. Provo bomb squad officers responded to the incident.

“Four total devices that appear to be pipe bombs were removed from the area for safe disposal,” police said.

The suspect was being interviewed by police, and the matter was still under investigation as of Friday afternoon.
