WASHINGTON, Washington County — The U.S. Navy called off a search for a missing Utah sailor who was last seen a week ago in Guam, where his ship was making a regular port call.
Petty Officer 2nd Class Gabriel D. Holt, of Washington, was last seen around midnight on April 18, near the Hotel Nikko and Gun Beach, according to the Guam Police Department.
Holt was assigned to the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier and officially reported missing Saturday morning, according to a press release issued by the Carrier Strike Group 11 public affairs office of the United States Navy.
The resulting search for Holt lasted 130 hours, covered over 11,000 square nautical miles and involved numerous naval assets and personnel, the U.S. Coast Guard and local emergency response agencies.
