LAYTON — The Utah Highway Patrol on Monday was trying to figure out how a road rage shooting unfolded on I-15 over the weekend while also looking for the gunman.

About 9:30 p.m. Sunday, the drivers of a Jeep Cherokee and a Ford Fusion got into a road rage confrontation. UHP Lt. Cameron Roden says troopers are still investigating what happened and how it started. Both vehicles were traveling south on the freeway near Antelope Drive in Layton when the driver of the Ford fired multiple rounds into the passenger side of the Jeep, he said.

The driver of the Ford then exited I-15 in Layton. The Jeep driver got off the freeway in Kaysville, where UHP troopers found him.

The driver was not injured, but his vehicle had bullet holes and two flat tires from being shot, Roden said.

Investigators continued their search on Monday for the driver of the Ford along with anyone who may have witnessed the shooting.
